George R. R. Martin (b. 1948) is an American novelist, short-story writer, and television producer best known for the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, adapted by HBO as Game of Thrones. A multiple Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award winner, he also edits the long-running Wild Cards anthology and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
